RISO INKS
4 available colours
Steph Ford Studio is an emerging space working with a limited range of colours. As the studio grows and evolves, so will the colour selection.
Riso ink is kind of like paint- but different.
It’s a liquid ink made from
rice bran oil, water & pigment.
Unlike other inks, Riso ink is
semi-transparent allowing for
overlapping to make more colours!
Riso colours are best experienced in person as they are difficult (and sometimes impossible) to digitally reproduce. These are approximations that you can use for reference.

PAPER
STUDIO SUPPLY
The Riso can print on any uncoated paper between
20lb bond - 100lb cover (however, anything over 80lb can get a little dicey) that is a maximum size of 11”x17”.
Paper as small as 4x6 can be printed, but it’s just not worth it. Throw a few more on a letter sized paper and cut it down later! But seriously, no paper smaller than 8.5'“x11”.

Steph Ford Studio tries to keep a steady supply of paper stocks in the studio at all times, but can’t guarantee that your favourite will be on hand.
Paper can be ordered by request for specific projects but will extend turn around times.

BYOP- You can definitely bring in your own paper, but you’ve got to follow the rules!
The Paper Rules
Uncoated only! Riso ink cannot absorb into glossy/coated papers. Trust it’s just going to turn into a smudgy inky mess!
Min size: 8.5x11”
Max size: 11x17”Nothing chunky! Sorry, no seed paper allowed.
Paper only! Sorry, no fabrics or wood.
Printing on envelopes, paper bags and sticker paper is accepted on a case-by-case basis.
Bring 10-30% more paper than you need to account for crazy alignments and paper jams.
Remember, Riso ink is semi-transparent so printing on coloured paper will alter the final print colours!
PRICING GUIDE & SERVICES
First, lets do a term breakdown!
Master Stencil- Each colour on each page requires its own “master” - a stencil that is used to print your design. Once a new master has been made on an ink drum, the previous one is discarded and can’t be reused (but it can be remade very easily).
Example:
A flyer printed with black and pink ink would use 2 masters.
A double sided flyer printed with black and pink would use 4 masters.
Copy- This is referring to how many of your final artwork you will get.
Example:
10 flyers printed with black and pink ink is 10 copies
10 double sided flyers printed with black and pink is also 10 copies
Print- One print is equal to one paper sheet passing through the machine. The Riso at Steph Ford Studio prints one colour at a time, so the paper must pass through the machine multiple times when working with multiple colours or double sided.
Masters x Copies = print count
Example:
10 copies of a flyer printed with black and pink ink would be 20 prints.
10 copies of a double sided flyer printed with black and pink would be 40 prints.
