about

Steph Ford Studio is a Risograph print studio based on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations. The studio opened in 2023 and is run by Steph (she/her).

Steph is a multi-disciplinary artist/designer with a Communications Design degree from Emily Carr University. During her studies, she fell in love with the process of Risograph printing and wanted to continue working with it after graduation. There was nowhere in the city for DIY Riso printing so Steph bought a machine (Betty) from Craigslist and found a studio space. The goal of Steph Ford Studio is to give people the freedom to explore this unique printing technique for themselves and experience all the fun little quirks that come with Riso.

Along with running workshops, open studios and completing print jobs for other artists, Steph still makes time to work on her own practice. Fully embarrassing the imperfections that come with Risograph printing, she defies the clean and minimalistic modernist aesthetic, placing importance on revealing the artist's hand in her creations. Outside of Riso, Steph also focuses her practice on painting and fibre arts.

“All I want is for people to use my printer”
